The area known as Glenview was originally owned by James Smalley Bate who later sold the land in 1868 to a meat packer named James C. McFerran. McFerran used to land to open a horse farm that he named Glen View. When McFerran died in 1885, the property went to John E. Green who renamed the horse farm Glenview Stock Farm. In the 19th century, wealthy families moved to the area to build summer vacation homes and eventually, residential homes where they lived full time. The early residents of Glenview worked along with members of surrounding communities to start the Louisville, Harrods Creek and Westport Railroad in 1877. This commuter rail line was operated and frequently used until the 1950s.
