Distinguished Schools in Louisville, KY
Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) operates more than 145 schools in Louisville. Almost 100,000 students are enrolled in the JCPS, and the school district’s budget is just about $1 Billion. Their vision is that all JCPS students graduate prepared to reach their full potential and contribute to our society throughout life. Their mission is to provide relevant, comprehensive, quality instruction in order to educate, prepare, and inspire our students to learn.

DuPont Manual High School is a magnet school that educates about 1,700 students in grades nine through twelve. DuPont Manual has been ranked as the best high school in all of Kentucky by U.S. News & World Report. Its 2013 average ACT score of 25.7 is the best in the state. Newsweek has included DuPont in its list of top fifty high schools in the country. The student-teacher ratio is about 19:1.

Another high school to be highly rated by U.S. News & World Report is Louisville Male. In the most recent ratings, it comes in at 7th in the state. It is rated 118th among all of the magnet schools in the country. 61-percent of the students participate in AP courses. In reading, 96-percent of students rate proficient or better. The student-teacher ratio is approximately 21:1.
Don’t be misled by the name. “Male” is a highly-rated co-ed high school educating over 1,700 students in grades nine through twelve. At one point, the traditionally all-boys school did change its name as it began to include female students. However, parents and teachers eventually pushed, with success, to go with tradition. This magnet high school is not only one of the most highly-ranked high schools in Lousiville. It is one of the most highly thought schools in the district.
Barret Traditional Middle School

Barret is perhaps the highest-rated middle school out of several dozen in the school district serving Lousiville. It educates over 600 students in grades six through eight. Over the past three years, the Kentucky Core Content test results for Barret have typically been about 15-25 percentage points higher than the state average.

This K-5 magnet school is one of the absolute best grade schools out of almost a hundred in JCPS. Test scores are among the highest in the district. There is usually a substantial waiting list to get into Greathouse Shryock, which is testament to the respect it garners in Louisville.
